A downtown Macon accounting firm that’s been in the same location about 25 years is planning to move.
But Mauldin & Jenkins, Certified Public Accountants LLC is not going far.
The firm is planning to move from 439 Mulberry St. to the Gateway Plaza building at 300 Mulberry St., Suite 300, said Mauldin & Jenkins partner Terry Henderson.
“We are out of space,” said Henderson, adding the firm has about 42 people.
“We are trying to add space for another 15 people or so. ... We want to stay downtown. We looked out at other places, but we just like being in the central core. We like being able to walk to lunch as a group, and there is just more sense of community down here and we just like that.”
The company now has about 11,000-square-feet of space and it will take about 14,500-square-feet at Gateway Plaza, he said. Dunwody/Beeland Architects Inc. is doing the interior and architectural design work. The accounting firm plans to move this summer.
“The third floor is virgin space so we’re getting to build it out just the way we want it,” Henderson said.
The company has a 10-year lease with two five-year options on the new space.
The firm has about 180 total employees in Atlanta, Macon, Albany and Birmingham, Ala.
