A Macon man was arrested and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal trespass in connection to a break-in at a store in Perry early Monday morning, said Capt. Heath Dykes of the Perry Police Department.
At 12:54 a.m., police responded to an alarm at Dollar General, 1009 Main Street, and found a vehicle with the trunk open in a nearby parking lot. After the car ran over a curb, an officer stopped the driver, Kirt Collins, 37, and began questioning him. Another officer found the back door of the store open, and Collins admitted he entered the building. Police at the scene found a bag with $2,700 in Collins’ possession, as well as a propane torch and a Stanley chisel, according to Dykes.
Collins is a former employee of the store, Dykes said.
