Hearings for proposed property tax increases across Bibb County will begin next week.
The Macon City Council will launch its first hearing at 6 p.m. March 1, followed by 11 a.m. March 8 and 4 p.m. March 15. The hearings in the City Council Chambers in City Hall, 700 Poplar St., will be a forum to discuss a proposed tax increase to 10.16 mills from a rollback rate of 8.951 mills.
The Bibb County Board of Commissioners will hold its hearings at 9 a.m. Tuesday, 6:05 p.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. March 16 in the Commissioners’ Chambers, Bibb County Courthouse, 601 Mulberry St. The county is proposing a tax rate of 11.003 mills, above the rollback rate of 10.003 mills.
The Bibb County Board of Education will hold its hearings at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday as well as 5 p.m. March 9 at the board offices at 484 Mulberry St. The school system is proposing a millage rate of 17.945 mills, above the rollback rate of 16.945 mills.
