A 14-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run accident early this morning on Chapman Road in Jones County.
Courtney Taylor White had missed the bus and was headed to another bus stop in the dark when she was struck and killed sometime after 6:38 a.m.
Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece said a motorist found her body in the road and called 911.
Vicki White, Courtney's mother, said an unidentified woman was performing CPR on her daughter but she died at the scene, which is a short walk from her home.
"I want to know who was riding that road," White said. "I understand things happen but when they left my baby there, that's when they committed a crime."
White said she can forgive the driver for the accident but not for leaving her daughter in the road.
Investigators combed the pavement for clues as to what type of vehicle hit Courtney near Graystone Circle. No information was immediately available about the make and model of the vehicle that fled the scene.
The 9th Grade Academy student loved to write and make movies with her friends, White said.
"She always had things planned out," White said.
Chapman Road runs off Ga. 49 not far Mattie Wells Elementary School. Anyone who was traveling in that vicinity who may have seen a damaged vehicle is urged to call the Jones County Sheriff's Office at 986-3489.
