Soldiers from the Georgia National Guard’s 48th Brigade will begin coming home from Afghanistan at the end of the month, a unit spokesman said.
The details of the redeployment schedule are unclear. Even for the families of the 48th troops, the exact hour of their arrival may not be known until they are flying across the Atlantic.
The schedule calls for the units to arrive at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah before loading onto buses to be ferried into Fort Stewart, where family members will see their loved ones for the first time since their deployment. The redeployment will be completed by mid-April.
The 48th Brigade has operated in Afghanistan since March 2009. This is its second deployment in about five years, having been deployed to Iraq in 2005.
