JEFFERSONVILLE - Darquez Dennard was an all-state receiver as a junior and an all-state defensive back as a senior. But he’s planning to play cornerback in college after signing Wednesday with Michigan State.
Dennard was one of three Twiggs County players to sign, joining Jeremy Stanley and Daven Bell. Stanley signed with Georgia Southern, while Bell signed with Hutchinson Community College.
“I’m just so thrilled for these players,” Twiggs County head coach Dexter Copeland said. “It’s a testament to all the hard work they’ve put in to be able to sign and go play college football.”
Dennard was a four-year starter for the Cobras.
“I really liked the (Michigan State) coaches and the players that they have already up there,” said Dennard, who also plans to play special teams with the Spartans. ”And the signing class they have coming in, all the guys were really close. It’s a good group, and I’m glad to be part of it.”
