A mixed-use senior retirement community is planned on about 12 acres in east Bibb County, and it is expected to be discussed Monday by the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.
A conditional-use permit is sought for 2730 Masseyville Road at Lakeshore Drive to allow a mixed-use senior retirement community, called Charlotte’s Beach, with variances in the distance between the structures and in parking requirements. The property was rezoned in June from a multi-family residential district to a planned development extraordinary district.
Described as a “golf-cart” retirement community, it would have 187 units in three multi-family buildings and 30 individual lakeside cottages, according to the commission’s staff reports. The property, which would be gated, includes a 7-acre lake.
Amenities include an enclosed swimming pool, golf cart pathways, sauna, fishing and boating, sandy beaches, community gardens and a covered boat dock.
Never miss a local story.
The purpose of the project is “to provide affordable housing for seniors that would like to remain in the Macon/suburban area and would enjoy a Miami resort-like (area) to spend their retirement years in an active lifestyle,” according to a narrative provided by the applicant, Cunningham & Co. engineering company.
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at Macon City Hall, 700 Poplar St.
