Bibb County deputies were called to Rutland High School Wednesday afternoon to investigate the rape of a 14-year-old student.
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Smallwood said the rape is alleged to have occurred in Lamar County sometime over the New Year’s holiday and the case has been transferred to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.
Bibb County schools Deputy Superintendent Sylvia McGee said the girl confided in another student about wanting to kill herself because of the incident during the holiday break.
“That student confided in his mother and his mother in turn contacted the school district about the situation,” McGee said.
A school system investigator and social worker were called to Rutland on Wednesday and they called the sheriff’s office.
