KATHLEEN — The GBI is investigating a Thursday afternoon shooting that left one man dead.
A Houston County sheriff’s deputy was attempting to serve warrants at 121 S. Tamie Circle about 1:30 p.m. when he heard a gunshot, said Capt. Alan Everidge of the sheriff’s office. A 45-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound, he said. A bulletin released by the Houston County Sheriff's office on Friday indicated the wound was self-inflicted.
The man, Edmund Roy Baker Jr., was to be served with two warrants on charges of child molestation and sexual battery, said Capt. Robert Clark of the sheriff’s office. Both warrants stemmed from the same incident, Clark said. He did not have any other details about the incident.
Baker was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he died at 3:19 p.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Baker appeared to have been shot in the head, said Gary Rothwell, GBI special agent in charge of the Perry office.
The investigation was turned over to the GBI because a deputy was present during the shooting, Rothwell said.
