The annual Ocmulgee Alive river cleanup in Macon has been postponed for a second time, again because of heavy rains causing potential flooding along the river.
The cleanup scheduled for Saturday will now take place Dec. 5, according to the Macon Water Authority, which coordinates the cleanup. Authority officials were concerned that volunteers might face risk from the strong currents and rising water levels if the cleanup was held this weekend.
The Dec. 5 cleanup should be finished in time not to conflict with the planned Fly South Festival at Central City Park, according to the authority. Volunteers already signed up will receive a free T-shirt and be served lunch after the morning cleanup. Volunteers should meet at Rotary Park on Riverside Drive near First Street at 9 a.m.
