An Athens-based company plans its third store, which will be located at The Shoppes at River Crossing.
PeachMac is opening its Apple products store at the north Bibb County shopping center at 5080 Riverside Drive. Renovation currently is under way at the 3,000-square-foot store located between Bonefish Grill and Barnes & Noble Booksellers.
“Right now we are hoping to open on Saturday, Nov. 14,” said owner Darryl Peck.
The company has stores in Athens and Augusta.
The store will carry the entire line of Apple computers, iPods and other Apple products, except the iPhone, Peck said. But PeachMac does sell accessories for the iPhone.
“We have over 1,300 items in our stores, which is way more than you will find in any Apple company store,” Peck said. “We are also a fully authorized Apple service provider, so anyone in the Middle Georgia area that needs service done on their Mac can come to us.”
Customers don’t have to make appointments for service or support, he said.
The company was founded a little more than two years ago, “and we’re already one of the 10 largest Apple dealers in the country ... and we’ve been working with Apple for 25 years,” he said.
Plans to come to Middle Georgia have been in the works for quite awhile, Peck said. Part of the reason is a family connection.
Peck’s wife, Anne Lyndon Peck, is from Macon, they got married here and they still have relatives in the area.
“We’ve sort of been waiting for that area up by Bass Road to develop a little bit more,” he said. “So we decided to do Augusta last year. ... We talked to some managers of stores at The Shoppes at River Crossing and they are doing extremely well, and we visited there on countless occasions and it’s always very busy.”
The Apple company is doing well — stock was selling at about $200 a share this week — and Peck expects the store here to do well.
“It’s a good time to be in the Apple business,” he said.
