A Mary Persons High School student sustained injuries to her head Tuesday morning after being struck by a car, authorities said.
Monroe County sheriff’s spokeswoman Alison Willis said the 14-year-old girl was struck while trying to cross Brooklyn Avenue to get to the school about 7:45 a.m.
The crossing guard had not stopped traffic, and the girl tried crossing without the guard’s permission, Willis said.
The driver of the car was unable to stop in time.

Willis said the driver won’t face charges.
The girl was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment. The girl’s condition was not available late Tuesday.
