A 70-year-old Bibb County man accused of shooting his wife and then turning the gun on himself was indicted Tuesday by a Bibb County grand jury.
James Wilbur Mullis, of Marion Road, is charged with murder and felony murder in connection with the Jan. 6 death of 71-year-old Betty Mullis, according to Bibb County Superior Court records.
Authorities have said Mullis killed his wife and walked to a neighbor’s house. Through a front door, he asked someone to call an ambulance.
Then he allegedly returned to his property and shot himself in the cheek.

Mullis is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
Also indicted Tuesday:
— Carlton Antonio Hugley, 27, of Sapp Street, on charges of homicide by vehicle and hit and run.
Hugley is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol “to the extent it was less safe for the accused to drive” on April 25, 2008, according to court records.
Authorities say Hugley killed 39-year-old Rodney Corbin when his Hyundai Santa Fe hit Corbin’s motorcycle near the intersection of Albert Lane and Mercer University Drive.
Hugley allegedly drove away from the accident scene and hit a Mazda 626 on Woodard Avenue before running away.
He is being held at the Bibb County jail on $8,450 bond.
— Tod Chandler Freeman II, 29, of Lizella, on two counts of homicide by vehicle, according to court records.
Freeman is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of more than .08 within three hours of a traffic crash that killed his passenger, 34-year-old Jason Dwayne Lineberger of Lizella, according to court records.
Witnesses say Freeman was driving on Interstate 475 south near mile post 1 when he attempted to pass several vehicles.
He struck the rear of a southbound tractor trailer truck and a guardrail.
Freeman’s vehicle overturned, throwing Lineberger from the vehicle, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Freeman was released on $16,600 bond.
— Cleveland Scott Lanthrip, 22, and Domnick Dewayne Williams, 31, on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to court records.
Lanthrip, of Pinchield Drive, and Williams, of Reynolds Drive, are accused of robbing Value Place Hotel, 4949 Harrison Road, on Dec. 9, 2008, according to the records.
Williams additionally is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the indictment.
He is being held at the Bibb jail on $33,200 bond while Lanthrip is being held on $27,700 bond.
