COLUMBUS – Shaquita Hodges scored the final four points of the game to lead Rutland to a 46-43 win over defending champion Kendrick in the GHSA Class AAA Elite Eight Saturday, sending the Hurricanes to their first Final Four.
Rutland is the first Bibb County school to advance to play at the Macon Coliseum in seven years.
Hodges made two free throws and a layup in the final 2:20 of the game and the Hurricanes held the Cherokees scoreless over the span. Rutland outscored Kendrick 13-4 in the fourth quarter.
“It’s just awesome that Rutland didn’t have much basketball history and now we’re making history,” Rutland senior Kendra Grant said.
Never miss a local story.
The seventh-ranked Hurricanes will play No. 4 Carrollton at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Coliseum.
