FORT VALLEY — Two Florida men were arrested on drug charges Tuesday afternoon after a routine traffic stop on Interstate 75, police said.
Antonio Gordon, 23, and Arnett Griffin, 22, both of Orange Lake, Fla., were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said Wednesday.
A Peach County deputy pulled over the driver, later identified as Gordon, for following too closely and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, Deese said.
A search of the Dodge pickup and Chrysler 300M it was pulling resulted in the confiscation of 9 pounds of marijuana, the sheriff said.
Never miss a local story.
The marijuana was hidden in the car trunk under the carpet on top of the spare tire, he said.
The marijuana, which was in sealed vacuum bags, had an estimated street value of about $15,000, Deese said. That’s based on its potential to be broken down and sold on the streets for $120 an ounce, he said.
Gordon and Griffin were being held Wednesday at the Peach County Law Enforcement Center, Deese said.
