WARNER ROBINS — Houston County authorities are investigating a fatal fire Thursday at 217 Wrasling Way off Houston Lake Road.
The victim is believed to be Samson Wright, 62, of the residence, Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Robert Clark said.
A positive identification will not be made until the autopsy, but authorities believe Wright is the victim, Clark said.
A neighbor saw him in the driveway shortly before the fire, Clark said.
Never miss a local story.
Wright’s body was found inside one of two cars within the garage, said Danny Evans, Houston County fire public information officer. The body was in the driver’s seat, Clark said.
Authorities don’t know whether the car crashed inside the garage and started the fire, Evans said.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed in flames and the garage door was opening and closing, he said.
Firefighters entered the home and fought the fire from inside, Evans said.
Authorities aren’t certain what happened, but there is no preliminary evidence of arson, Evans said.
Houston County sheriff’s Cpl. Joe Middlebrooks said an autopsy has been scheduled for this morning.
The car might have crashed as a result of the driver having a medical emergency, Middlebrooks said.
Wright had medical issues that he had been seeking to resolve at the Veterans Administration, Clark said. The fire call came in at 11:10 a.m.
