Officials from Cox Communications said Wednesday an agreement had been reached with WPGA-TV in Macon, and the cable system began rebroadcasting the high-definition signal Wednesday evening.
The channel, Cox HD channel 706, had stopped broadcasting Jan. 1 when the cable company and the station failed to reach an agreement about a new contract. WPGA's regular signal on Cox Channel 6 was not interrupted during that time.
Officials declined to talk about details of the agreement.
Had a deal not been reached, Cox would have automatically picked up the HD feed beginning Feb. 17 as part of a “must-carry” regulation by the Federal Communications Commission.
Lowell Register, president of Register Communications, said his station finally was able to reach an agreement with Cox.
“We've made a deal with them,&” he said. “We both agreed it would be a good thing for the both of us (to restore the signal). We're all squared away with it. Hopefully, things will be OK in the future.”
