The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office received top honors in their division in the National Law Enforcement Challenge sponsored by the International Chiefs of Police.
Sheriff Darren Mitchum joined Maj. James McDaniel and Capt. Nathan Hendrix in San Diego, Calif. last week to receive the first place award for 2007-2008 for the sheriff's offices with 21 to 30 sworn officers, according to a news release from the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office.
The challenge rewards traffic safety programs across the United States.
Other Middle Georgia winners include the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office which placed second in the competition for departments with 51 to 100 officers and Jeff Davis County was awarded second place for sheriff's offices with up to 20 officers.
