Hundreds of people gathered at Wesleyan College for the dedication of the school's organ Thursday night in Porter Auditorium.
The Goodwyn-Candler-Panoz organ with its nearly 5,000 pipes was recently restored.
The audience participated in the dedication ceremony that praised the restoration and the patrons who made it possible and offered a prayer of thanksgiving for the organ.
Guest organist Peter Richard Conte said the restoration of the instrument was miraculous as few organs of the stature of the Aeolian Opus 1542 are still in existence today, Conte said.
Conte is the Grand Court Organist of the world famous Wanamaker organ at Macy's in Philadelphia.
The organ will be featured in a concert with the Macon Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 18 in Porter Auditorium. Michael McGhee will be performing on the organ during the concert which begins at 7:30 p.m.
