A Dodge County woman was sentenced Friday to two years in prison and three years on probation in the 2008 death of an infant she was baby-sitting.
District Attorney Tim Vaughn said Amy Rogers Jones, 38, proclaimed her innocence through her attorney, but she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
Jones initially was charged with murder and cruelty to a child.
She was sentenced Friday afternoon following a day and a half of testimony from medical examiners and family members, Vaughn said.
A medical examiner testifying for the prosecution said the baby died as the result of blunt-force head trauma, Vaughn said.
Jones reportedly called 911 just before 12:20 p.m. Jan. 2, 2008, saying that the baby, Jaci Morgan Rogers, was having difficulty breathing.
When emergency personnel arrived, the baby was in full cardiopulmonary arrest, according to the GBI. She was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia’s pediatric intensive care unit, where she died the next afternoon.
Results from an autopsy revealed that the baby’s death was a homicide.
Jones is not related to Jaci Rogers, but she was an acquaintance and friend of the parents, according to the GBI.
