Flannery O’Connor’s stories honored by National Book Foundation

The National Book Foundation named Flannery O’Connor’s “The Complete Stories” as the Best of the National Book Awards Fiction, on Wednesday during National Book Awards Week.

The results came from an online poll in which voters chose “The Complete Stories” by the Milledgeville writer as the best work to have won the National Book Award in the contest’s 60-year history.

“The Complete Stories” was published in 1971 and is a collection of 32 short stories, including “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” and “Everything That Rises Must Converge.”

Other finalists included “The Stories of John Cheever,” “William Faulkner’s Collected Stories,” “The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty,” Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man” and Thomas Pynchon’s “Gravity’s Rainbow.”
