closeBibb County’s public schools will soon offer swine flu vaccines to students, according to a school system news release.
About 25 Bibb County students have had suspected cases of swine flu this year, said David Gowan, the system’s director of risk management.
Wednesday, the school system and North Central Health District sent letters and consent forms home to the district’s roughly 24,500 students to alert parents that their children can sign up for a free vaccine at their schools.
Parents will be notified when the vaccine is available. The vaccines, either through a shot or a mist, are voluntary.
“Anytime you can vaccinate a child, you decrease the chance of transmission or giving it to another family member,” Gowan said.
Signed consent forms are due back to the child’s school by Nov. 30.
