Another round of stimulus-funded road projects has gotten the OK from Gov. Sonny Perdue, meaning contractors will be chosen and work should begin soon.
Perdue certified about $66 million in projects around the state and released the list Monday. It includes several Middle Georgia projects, including
- In Baldwin County, $261,720 for the resurfacing and maintenance of Blandy Road from Ga. 49 to Ga. 22 and $403,321 for work on Browns Crossing Road, also from Ga. 49 to Ga. 22.
- In Laurens County, $31,345 to resurface and maintain Roberson Street from Ga. 19 (U.S. 80) to Knox Street and $459,708 to resurface and maintain Old Macon Road from Evergreen Road to the Wilkinson County line.
- In Dooly County, $164,385 to resurface and maintain Elko Road from the Houston County line to Ga. 7.
- In Macon County, $589,906 to resurface and maintain Drayton Road from Twin Churches Road to the Dooly County line.
- In Pulaski County, $465,482 to resurface and maintain Burnt Bridge from Ga. 26 to Ga. 230.
- In Upson County, $750,450 to resurface and maintain Barnesville Road from Ga. 74 to the Lamar County line.
- In Twiggs County, $812,383 to resurface and maintain Sgoda-Huber Road from Ga. 87 to Riggins Mill Road.
Most of the projects certified by the governor during this round were resurfacing and maintenance projects. That’s largely because stimulus projects, which receive federal funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, needed to be “shovel ready” this year, and many resurfacing projects were, a Department of Transportation spokeswoman said.
