Macon-Bibb County firefighters answered a call Friday to the old Lakeside Park, where a trash fire spread and ignited dried, rotted wood on a building there. “It was an old, vacant, rundown building that was falling down,” District Fire Chief James Wallace said. “They were cleaning up around it and (the fire) kind of got away from them. It was a lot of bushes, and I guess it got to going a little bit faster than they thought.” Lakeside was a popular recreation area into the 1960s that included a 40-acre lake.
