Recently I noticed an app advertised on the door of a thrift store. Its graphic was eye-catching and its text offered my family a free $5 credit for downloading the app. Without hesitating, my husband pulled out his phone, downloaded the app and prepared to shop with a free $5 in mind (and in hand, on his phone).
The app we learned about that Saturday is called LoyalTree. This free app can be downloaded simply from the app store. During that particular visit to the store, my husband was able to do so without any problem or delay.
In addition to keeping track of how many times you visit the location that has partnered with LoyalTree, the app will collect points based on the purchases you make. For example, the day my husband downloaded the app and received the savings, he scanned the QR code on the receipt and collected a few “points” toward a future discount.
When we returned to the same chain of stores a few weeks later, our $9 purchase added another 9 points to our account with the simple scan of the QR code on the receipt. I was able to scan it in and accept the addition before I even left the cashier’s line.
Never miss a local story.
LoyalTree prides itself on the way in which it works with companies to offer a good-sized welcome incentive. This incentive drives customers to use the app regularly and frequently -- not only because they received a good incentive at the onset of the membership, but also because adding up their points will allow them to work their way to another incentive.
Another reward system that is tied to your cell phone and can be used for rewards at restaurants and other stores is PlumRewards, the system that Shane’s Rib Shack uses.
My husband and I have both subscribed to text messaging from Shane’s, so we receive all sorts of offers in that format. However, each time we go to Shane’s, we enter a cellphone number at checkout.
Typing the cellphone number into the little box to the side of the register allows Shane’s to keep track of our visits. Once we have visited a certain number of times, we receive a free meal.
The last reward system I would like to highlight today is the one that Moe’s Southwest Grill offers. Its system, too, gives us free food because we have registered our phone number with their rewards system. Moe’s will contact us on our phone -- very infrequently -- to let us know about special deals or a daily promotion. However, our favorite Moe’s savings comes when we register our visits with them using our phone number. Every few months we receive a free meal in return for our loyalty.
One of my goals for 2015 is to use my phone more often to save money. These are just three of the apps and stores I will be using my phone in regularly this year!
