A man was arrested by Macon police Wednesday morning, charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer and hindering or obstructing an officer.
The suspect, Antonio D. Wilburn, attempted to flee the scene, and officers gave chase and attempted to take him into custody.
According to a police report, Wilburn resisted officers, ignoring all verbal commands and striking the arresting officer in the mouth with his elbow.
At this time, chemical agents were administered, but Wilburn continued to kick and fight to avoid being taken into custody.

After being handcuffed, his eyes and face were rinsed with water to alleviate burning, the report said. While waiting for EMS to arrive, he spat at the arresting officer, at which point his feet were also restrained with leg irons.
Once taken into custody, Wilburn remained noncompliant and attempted to kick in the back window of the patrol vehicle.
The National Crime Information Center verified 10 active warrants out for Wilburn through the Macon Police Department, two through the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and one through Twiggs County.
