BYRON -- Though small and out of the way, Make It Cake is worth the drive to Peach County.
After seeing a post on Facebook about the shop, I decided it probably needed to be reviewed. After all, I love sweets.
And, for the most part, these cupcakes satisfied the sweet tooth’s of each person who tried them.
I took some of them to a party my friend was throwing. I figured that was the best way to get an assortment of cupcake-eaters to try them.
With mouths full, I got a thumbs up and a lot of “mmmm’s.”
There are a few regular flavors on the menu each day and then a specialty one or two.
The regulars are red velvet, chocolate chip, vanilla birthday cake, strawberry and key lime.
I highly recommend the key lime. Even two days later, my mouth puckered from the tang. Some people make key lime cupcakes too sweet, but these were right on the money. My mouth is watering as I write about it.
Red velvet was the favorite and my friends thought those were well done.
Two of the children who tried the cotton candy cupcakes, which are done with blue frosting and blue and pink batter, said they were “delicious.”
More than just a cupcake shop, the owners also do a variety of wedding and specialty cakes. On my last visit, the owner was making Minnie Mouse cupcakes for a child’s first birthday.
Even a day later, the cupcakes still tasted just as good, because both times I ordered, there were leftovers to be had. The plastic containers seem to keep them better than the cardboard boxes that other cupcake places use.
On my second visit, which I ordered via text message, I got key lime, orange dream and carrot cake. They were all big hits.
One of my tasters said it was a 9 out of 10 for the carrot cake.
My mother, who tried the key lime, said she had never had a cupcake that tasted just like a key lime pie.
The frostings, which were mainly buttercream, were very sweet. I thought it had just the right amount of sweetness for a cupcake.
I’m glad I found a new place to eat via social media. I will be visiting Make It Cake not only because of the cupcakes, but because of the sweetness I was shown each time I came in the door.
