My Father's Place in Warner Robins isn't your average pizza place. They have a variety of just about everything. Think of them as a smorgasbord of everything yummy.
Walking in, it looks like a typical pizza parlor, sporting the Mrs. Pac Man in the corner. And in the dining room, things don't look much different. Framed newspapers with headlines about famous baseball games, walking on the moon or times of mourning for Kennedy adorn the walls. Friday nights, My Father's Place must be the place to be because it was packed. And the menu explains why.
Everything from buffalo shrimp to egg rolls, My Father's Place has it all, even some pizza in between. They offer an extensive appetizer menu with chicken wings, pizza sticks and mushroom kebobs. As for the main menu, they offer a variety of pizzas, including some pretty unusual ones titled Gourmet, such as Rajun Cajun that's topped with some Cajun-style shrimp. The Wagon Wheel and the Spud-Nick struck me as odd. Maybe I'm strange, but barbecue and baked potato pizza isn't my idea of gourmet. The Athens Special however did seem pretty appealing.
Moving on with the menu, we have the usual spaghetti with meatballs and the always dependable lasagna. The menu even offered veal - on more then one occasion. They offered many salads and an assortment of hot and cold subs. And if you're feeling up to it at the end, go for dessert.
On my first visit I ordered the mozzarella sticks, a garden salad and a meatball sub. The mozzarella sticks were the best I've had. The cheese was melted perfect, and the taste was amazing. I noticed with both of the salads I got that they were pretty average. They were good though. The meatballs on the sub were dry, but still it wasn't bad.
My mother ordered the Nutty Chicken Sub, and may I say that was pretty amazing. I don't know how else to explain it except exactly how the menu does: "A 4-oz. piece of breaded chicken smothered in sauted mushrooms and pecans. Crowned with Provolone Cheese and topped with our homemade, melt-in-your-mouth, Honey Mustard Sauce." OK, they may have exaggerated a bit, but I give them credit for their word choice.
On the second visit I got the pesto sticks for an appetizer, a Greek salad and the White Veggie Pizza. The pesto sticks were very tasty and rather large. I mistook it for the pizza. The White Veggie Pizza was great. It had a variety of veggies on it - tomatoes, green peppers and broccoli to name a few. I love broccoli on my pizza; it tastes fresh and crisp on a pizza and theirs was perfect.
Paying is a little different at this place. Don't wait for the check; they'll meet you at the counter and they have it there. Also, check out the "We Make It, You Bake It" products. Take your favorite pizza home to cook yourself.
Pizza, wings and an egg roll, there's something for everyone at My Father's Place. Let's just say it again. This isn't your average pizza place.
