Iranian-Americans and expatriates vote in election

Iranian voters have their passports checked prior to casting their ballot at a polling station for Iran's presidential election, Friday, June 14, 2013, in the Queens borough of New York. Iranian-Americans and expatriates will be able to vote Friday, but turnout is expected to be lower than in 2009 in part because there are fewer places to cast ballots. During the previous election, record numbers of Iranians voted in 41 locations throughout the U.S. This year, there are half as many voting locations.

With their passports in tow, Iranian-Americans and expatriates trickled into polling sites across the United States on Friday, joining their countrymen half a world away in voting in Iran's presidential election.
