Man gets 13 years for Macon bank robbery

A 38-year-old Knoxville man has been sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison in connection with the Sept. 15, 2007, robbery of a BB&T bank on Mercer University Drive.

Wesley Sorrow entered a guilty plea to one count of bank robbery on Nov. 25, 2008, and was sentenced Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Sorrow admitted to robbing the bank after presenting a note demanding $2,000.

After receiving the money from a teller, Sorrow left the bank and was later apprehended by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. Forensic evidence linked him to the robbery.

After his prison term, Sorrow must serve three years on supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Macon police, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the GBI and the FBI. —
