The sound of gunfire in south Bibb County early Friday morning turned out not to be an armed robbery as initially reported by authorities.

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies got a call just before 7 a.m. from someone on Sofkee Place who heard gunshots nearby, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was hurt, but deputies detained two people at the Hawkinsville Road home for questioning.

A subsequent investigation found that 29-year-old Stephen Paul Jones of Perry discharged a gun outside the residence. He was arrested and charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a parole violation, the release said.
