LAS VEGAS — A suspected gang member who was hospitalized with a neck wound after a shooting that sent people running from a Las Vegas Strip shopping mall wasn't cooperating with investigators, police said Wednesday.
Detectives were trying to identify the shooter and determine what led to the altercation involving a group of people before the Tuesday shooting at a food court at Fashion Show Mall, police Officer Larry Hadfield said.
The injured man ran down an escalator and disappeared on Las Vegas Boulevard, while two witnesses fled in a blue Dodge vehicle, police Lt. Mark Reddon told reporters at the scene.
Shoppers also fled the upscale mall after the gunshot. No other injuries were reported.
The wounded man later walked into MountainView Hospital, about 9 miles northwest of the Strip, Reddon told the Las Vegas Review-Journal (http://bit.ly/1oY1hUy). He was transferred to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center with injuries that weren't described as life-threatening.
Fashion Show valet attendants recognized the men who fled in the Dodge and notified police, who found the car and detained the men for questioning. Reddon described them as friends of the wounded man and said they weren't suspects in the shooting.
The three-story mall features restaurants and boutique shopping in some 2 million square feet of space. It is marked by a saucer-shaped overhead structure on pillars near Spring Mountain Road, across the Strip from the Wynn Las Vegas resort.
