A wayward tire from a utility trailer killed a 53-year-old Alpharetta man who was changing a tire on Interstate 75 in Lamar County Monday afternoon.

Brian Edward Durst was in the southbound emergency lane when he was hit by a tire from what is believed to be a two-axle utility, boat, horse or box trailer, according to a news release from the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle pulling the trailer did not stop after the 12:50 p.m. accident near mile marker 198.

Anyone with information about the accident or the trailer is urged to call the GSP at 770-254-7201.
