Zachary Healy entered Saturdays third round of the Georgia Amateur Championship as a frontrunner following a low round Friday.
Hell enter Sundays final round at Idle Hour Club seeking another big round to move up the leaderboard.
A 5-over-75 on Saturday dropped Healy from near the lead into a tie for 12th. His 3-over total score places him nine shots behind leader Stan Gann Jr.
One day after his 4-under 66 included four birdies, Healy managed two birdies and bogeyed five holes and had one double-bogey Saturday.
I just left a lot out there. I didnt have a lot of birdies, Healy said. Theres just a lot more birdies (that can be made) out here.
The Peachtree Corners golfer and Georgia signee entered Saturday at 2 under and stayed that way through the first six holes before three consecutive bogeys dropped him to 1 over at the turn following the ninth hole.
Healy bounced back to start the back nine. A birdie on No. 10 brought him to even par. On the 13th hole, he moved to 1 under as he carded a birdie on the par-4 hole.
Healy, however, was unable to sustain the momentum on a course that he says puts an emphasis on taking advantage of shots from the fairway toward the green.
Its a second-shot golf course. You have to hit the ball at the right spot into the greens, Healy said. You can miss greens, you just have to miss them at the right spot, theyre so small.
A bogey on No. 14 dropped Healy back to even par where he would stay until three holes remained in the round.
Following a bogey on No. 16, Healy needed to rally back on the 466-yard 17th hole, the longest tee shot on the course. His fortunes went the opposite direction. His tee shot landed off to the right of the fairway, setting up a tough approach toward the green. From there, Healy overshot the hole and ended up with a double bogey.
No. 17 was the only one I really hit it bad, Healy said Other than that, I just didnt hit it bad, I just didnt hit it in the right places.
A two-putt on the final hole capped Healys day, saddling him with an uphill climb heading into Sundays final round.
You just have to go out and try to get birdies, Healy said. Im (nine) back, Ill try and move up the leaderboard a good bit and try and sneak into the top three or five and see how it goes.
