Monroe County Bank and Zebulon-based United Bank have recently signed an agreement that would allow the Forsyth-based bank to merge into United Bank.

Monroe County Bank is the county’s oldest community bank and operates full-service offices in Forsyth and Bolingbroke, according to a news release.

United Bank operates 16 banking offices in Georgia including locations in Lamar, Butts and Upson counties.

Bill Bazemore, Monroe County Bank’s chairman, CEO and president, will join United Bank’s executive management team as division president of Monroe County.

“We look forward to continuing to offer the great customer service we’ve been known for since the founding of our bank in 1908,” Bazemore said in the release. “We are very excited about the potential of our combined organizations and look forward to joining United Bank, one of Georgia’s premier community banks.”

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The merger is expected to close during the third quarter pending normal regulatory approvals.
