WARNER ROBINS -- A Perry man accused of shooting a woman in front of her Elko home was arrested Thursday in Dooly County.

Desmond Demund Ross, 22, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Houston County jail records.

Ross was arrested without incident by deputies from Houston and Dooly counties, Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Jon Holland said. Crystal Samantha Grier, 26, was shot about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 3000 block of U.S. 41 after an argument. She remained hospitalized Thursday.

Grier and Ross were once in a relationship, and he had gone over to talk with her, Holland said. The two argued and Ross allegedly struck her in the face, Holland said.

Ross then allegedly went to his car, retrieved a small-caliber handgun and fired one shot, striking Grier in the abdomen. He fled in his 1994 green Toyota Camry.

A sheriff’s deputy responding to the shooting found Grier lying on her back near the rear tire of her pickup, according to the incident report. A witness was putting pressure to her wound with a towel. The deputy, Benjamin Taylor, rendered emergency aid until the ambulance arrived.

Ross was being held Thursday without bond.
