A former Macon police officer was indicted Tuesday in the alleged 2013 molestation of a girl he met on an Internet dating site.

Rory Theodore Qualls, 23, is charged with child molestation and violating his oath of office, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.

Qualls resigned from the force Nov. 8, after being arrested in connection with his alleged July 5, 2013, sexual encounter with the 15-year-old girl. The girl's mother reported the incident to police the previous day.

Qualls, who moved to Macon for police training in September 2012, was sworn in as an officer in March. He proposed to his girlfriend during his police graduation ceremony.
