Woman dies in fire at Macon apartment

A Macon woman died in a house fire early Saturday.

Barbara Hill, 43, who lived in an apartment at 4017 Napier Avenue, succumbed to smoke inhalation, said Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

The woman apparently left something cooking on the stove, and the smoke from that killed her, he said.

“The fire was contained to the kitchen area,” he said.

Macon-Bibb County firefighters were called at about 12:45 a.m. after a neighbor smelled smoke. The woman was taken to Coliseum Northside Hospital and was pronounced dead at about 1:22 a.m.
