Players to Watch

Logan Byrd, QB, Veterans

Byrd is the most heavily recruited quarterback in Middle Georgia since Antonio Henton in 2005. Byrd, who is a junior, has offers from Duke, Illinois, Marshall, Minnesota, N.C. State, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech. His Warhawks will open the season against Houston County and its hotly recruited sophomore quarterback Jake Fromm, who himself has offers from Cincinnati and Marshall.

Marquez Callaway, WR/DB, Warner Robins

A rising junior, Callaway exploded in the playoffs with some dominant performances. He has claimed offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Michigan State since then.

A.J. Gray, QB/DB, Washington County

The Telegraph’s All-Middle Georgia Player of the Year winner in 2013 returns with hopes to lead the Golden Hawks to a state championship. He is committed to Georgia Tech.

Marquies Price, DL, Peach County

The 6-foot-6 defensive end has committed to Duke after gaining offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, N.C. State, Purdue, South Florida, Central Florida, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Brandon Sandifer, OL, Northside

Sandifer is one of the top offensive linemen in the state and has offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

Roquan Smith, LB, Macon County

Smith has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia and is considered a consensus top 150 player in the nation.

Kentavious Thomas, RB, Baldwin

Thomas rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a junior and is committed to Mississippi State.
