Mercer football sophomore Robert Brown became the third player on the team to be named to a College Football Performance Awards Watch List as one of 36 returning tight ends from the FCS.

Brown ranked among the top 10 FCS tight ends in touchdown receptions with five scores in 2013. He had 21 catches for 308 yards as a freshman, earned second-team all-conference in the Pioneer Football League.

He joins quarterback John Russ and running back Payton Usher as Mercer players on the organization’s watch lists.

Former Mercer women’s golfer and 2014 graduate Mary Alice Murphy was named one of 664 NCAA Division I, II and III recipients of All-American Scholar status as announced by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association.

Candidates must have a 3.5 GPA, compete in at least 50 percent of the team’s rounds and “be of high moral character and maintain good standing at their institution.”

Murphy earned a spot on both the A-Sun all-conference second team and the A-Sun academic all-conference team with a 75.5 stroke average in nine events as a senior. She finished inside the top-20 in seven of nine tournaments and among the top-10 four times.
