Verizon Wireless announced Thursday that customers in Macon and Warner Robins will now have expanded capacity on their networks.

Verizon has added new technology known as XLTE to enhance its 4G LTE network capacity, essentially doubling that capacity. The company said in a news release that the upgrade will allow more customers to send and receive data during hours of peak usage.

The company has spent $170 million in Georgia to improve data speeds, the news release said. Eventually, the new technology will be available in more than 500 markets across the U.S.
