Macon will get to learn more about the hockey team coming to town for the 2015-16 season Wednesday when the Southern Professional Hockey Leagues Macon Mayhem host an official team unveiling at the Macon Marriott City Center.
According to a release, the teams logo will be revealed at the event, and the team will sign a contract to play at the Macon Coliseum.
North Macon Park teams victorious
Three North Macon Park baseball teams won state championships during the weekend, and all three are headed to Gulfport, Mississippi, next week for their respective USSSA World Series.
The 12-and-under team swept Fairview for the state title. The 8-and-under team lost its first game against Tyrone but rallied to win the final two games by a combined score of 25-8. The 6-and-under team also lost its first two games, to Fayette County, before rallying to win the final two games by a combined score of 30-13.
The World Series for each team is set for July 2-6.
Western edges WR East White in 9-10 play
Competition continued Monday in the 9-10 Little League District 5 baseball tournament, hosted by Dudley Little League.
Western defeated Warner Robins American East White 11-10 in an elimination game Monday, while Dudley Black topped Warner Robins American West Blue 16-5 in the main bracket.
Scheduled to play Tuesday are Vine Ingle American and Warner Robins American West White at 6 p.m. in a main bracket game, followed by Vine Ingle National and Dudley Red at 8:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
West Macon still unbeaten in Dixie 10U
West Macon and Perry Gold are the final two undefeated teams remaining in the Dixie Youth 10-and-under district baseball tournament.
In Mondays action, West Macon defeated Jones County Gold 9-3. In elimination backet games, Lamar County beat Warner Robins National 11-1 and Jones County Purple beat Taylor County 7-2.
West Macon and Perry Gold will face off Tuesday, while elimination games will feature Perry White against Lamar County and Jones County Purple against Jones County Gold.
Ramsey second in Michigan tournament
John Milledge product Ashlan Ramsey fired a 5-under-par 67 on Monday in the first round of the Michigan PGA Womens Open Championship.
Ramsey had six birdies and one bogey to sit in second place.
Local player invited to The Opening
Macon County linebacker Roquan Smith was selected to participate in The Opening beginning July 5 at Nike headquarters in Oregon.
The Opening selects the top prospects in the nation to compete in training combines and a 7-on-7 tournament.
