A 19-month-old girl slipped away from her babysitter and drowned in the family pool outside of Eastman late Thursday afternoon.

The ambulance crew performed CPR all the way from Log Cabin Road to Dodge County Hospital, but McKinley Faith Adkinson did not survive, said Coroner Joe Smith.

“They had an above-ground pool, but they didn’t have a fence,” Smith said.

The victim’s 10-year-old sibling also was at home with a 19-year-old babysitter when the girl was found in the pool about 4:30 p.m.

“All you have to do is take your eyes off them for two seconds, and they’ll slip away,” Smith said.

Smith referred to the incident as an accident and hoped the public would not rush to judge the teen.

“She’s got to live with it her whole life,” he said.
