A Warner Robins 15-year-old has advanced to the second round of the 2014 USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mackenzie Richter, who was persuaded by a friend to go to dance classes when she was 7, is competing for scholarships during the competition, which is held once every four years.
The field of 98 was cut to 54 for the second round.
The local dancer had two routines in the first round. If she makes it to the third round, she will have done six choreographed routines.
The oldest of five children, the rising sophomore is home schooled.
Richters goal is to become a professional dancer and move to Europe. She said she has had interest from a Dutch company that does both the classic and contemporary style of ballet, which she enjoys.
She would join the junior company for two years and then get into the official school, where she would have a paying job performing.
