WARNER ROBINS -- Manager Kevin Pike told his players to hit the ball.
The 7-8-year-olds from the Warner Robins American Little League West All-Star kid-pitch team answered in dominating fashion with a 19-1 win against WRALL East on Tuesday. The West wins the South Sectional championship and earns a berth into the Georgia Rookie Ball tournament, which will start Saturday.
The round-robin games Saturday are 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Teams from Peachtree City Little League and Newton County Little League will travel to Warner Robins to compete in the tournament.
I told them, The first swing is for you, Pike said he has preached to his players from the start of practice.
With only two weeks to go from coach-pitch to kid-pitch, the West has not lost a game in District 5 play nor in the South Sectional.
First baseman Gavin Pike was the star of the show with a two-run inside-the-park home run in the top of the second to make the score 7-0.
It felt good, Gavin Pike said.
The youngest player on the team is Tanyon Stella, who, as a substitute, was 2-for-2 with a walk.
Troy Carpenter was the starting pitcher for the West. Brayden Smith was the starter for the East.
These kids, Im blessed to have them, Kevin Pike said. They make it easy.
