Rhett Farmers recent move from Piedmont to Westfield has set off a series of changes in the Middle Georgia football coaching fraternity.
Farmer left his spot as the football head coach at Piedmont to become an assistant at Westfield. Piedmont then hired Covenant head coach Wes Tanner, who was an assistant at Piedmont before running the Rams program for one season.
And Chris Oxford started at Covenant on Tuesday after four seasons as the head coach at CFCA.
Im very excited; its something Im really looking forward to, said Oxford, who will serve as the football and baseball head coach at Covenant. I wanted a chance to get back into baseball, and this offered that. Once that was available, I jumped at the chance.
CFCA hasnt hired Oxfords replacement, according to school administrator Jeremiah Sattazahn.
Oxford said Covenant will have lights this season for the first time, allowing the school to host its football games on campus.
That will be nice, to have Friday night football right here on the campus, he said. Thats something were all looking forward to.
Oxford went 12-29 in four seasons as the Lancers head coach, while Tanner was 2-9 last season with the Rams.
Farmer was 45-21 in seven seasons at Piedmont and led the Cougars to the GISA Class AA title in 2010 and 2011.
Covenant and CFCA have left the GISA and will play in the GICAA this season.
