WARNER ROBINS -- The Houston County school system announced Monday its 2014-2015 crop of Teacher of the Year honorees.

A Teacher of the Year was selected at each of the district’s 38 schools. The honorees will be recognized at the system’s opening session July 24 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds, and a system Teacher of the Year will be announced, according to a school district news release.

To select a systemwide winner, an educator from outside the school system evaluated the written applications of school-level nominees. After preliminary judging, 10 semifinalists were selected for one-on-one interviews with a panel of out-of-system judges. The judges selected the top five teachers (the Teacher of the Year and four finalists), and their decision will be announced July 24.

The 10 semifinalists include: Christina Voigt of Eagle Springs Elementary, Kiley Bosworth of Hilltop Elementary, Melissa Wood of Houston County Career Academy, Ashley Reynolds of Huntington Middle School, Dennis Peavy of Lake Joy Elementary, Kathy Gibbs of David Perdue Elementary, Heidi Hines of David Perdue Primary, Caroline Randall of Pearl Stephens Elementary, Terra McMillan of Thomson Middle School and Jeff Washington of Veterans High School.
