When a man stripped down to his undershorts and climbed into a pickup at an east Macon supermarket, an observant onlooker called authorities.
It was about 1 a.m. Friday when a Bibb County sheriffs deputy rolled up.
The disrobed and sweaty man was asleep at the wheel of a 2006 Toyota Tundra in the Kroger parking lot at 660 North Ave.
The deputy woke the man and told him to unlock the door. Instead, the man, in a stupor and in boxers, picked up a floor mat and showed it to the cop.
Eventually, the man opened up and the deputy sat him down on the trucks tailgate.
The deputy, according to an incident report, asked him what he was doing sitting in the parking lot in nothing but his underwear, but his reply was unintelligible.
The man, later identified as 36-year-old James C. Hale, of Tennessee, didnt seem to know where he was.
I asked him how he got here and he stated he didnt know, the deputy wrote in his report. He stated that the last thing he remembered was sitting on the couch at home.
When the trucks owner, William Cabiness, walked out, the deputy asked if he knew the dazed man. Cabiness said he didnt, adding that hed apparently left the pickup unlocked.
Hale was charged with trespassing.
He looked like he was spaced-out on some kind of drugs, Cabiness, 59, said.
The incident comes on the heels of a more serious string of sightings of a naked man in the same area around Gray Highway, North Avenue and the Spring Street boat ramp.
That man, charged with criminal attempt to commit rape in an alleged June 4 attack on a Jackson Springs Road woman, was caught early Thursday, in the nude, a block or two from where Hale was.
