An 8-year-old girl drowned Saturday in Lake Wildwood.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office release, the girl was reported missing shortly after 7:30 p.m. She had been with relatives at the clubhouse area and could not be located.

Deputies and the Macon-Bibb Fire Department responded. After a search, she was found in the lake.

She was transported to Medical Center of Central Georgia and later pronounced dead by doctors, according to the release.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones identified her as Tyasia Jones of a Thunderbird Road address. He said the girl was at a birthday party. Her body was found at about 8:45 p.m., he said.

He said drowning is definitely the cause of death, but an autopsy will be performed because it is required by law.

She attended Walter P. Jones Elementary.
