Suspect arrested in Macon’s 4th homicide in a week

About 10 hours after Macon’s latest killing, Bibb County deputies arrested a suspect.

Micki Antonio Brown Jr., 20, was picked up near the Neighborhood Grocery Store on Montpelier Avenue about 9:45 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown is charged with murder and is being held without bond at the Bibb Law Enforcement Center in the death of 19-year-old Majesty Jaques Conover, who became Bibb County’s fourth homicide victim in a week Thursday night.

Conover, of Case Street, was shot multiple times at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday outside Building 16 of the Colonial Terrace Apartments, where his girlfriend lives, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Conover was pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia just before 12:45 a.m. Thursday, about 90 minutes after the shooting, Jones said.

Hours later, the violence weighed heavily on Shonda Mallory, who has lived for the past five or six years at the tidy apartment complex at 3775 Houston Ave.

Mallory passed by a sign announcing the Crimestoppers reward for information as she was walking to the Dollar General across the street to buy food for her poodle Thursday morning.

“That really kinda shook me,” Mallory said about the shooting toward the back of the apartments. “That’s really so close to home.”

She was already upset by last week’s homicide a couple of blocks away on Grenada Terrace.

Mallory and her sister grew up with 25-year-old Terrance Dent, who was fatally wounded in the chest and thigh just before 4 a.m. on May 29.

“With everybody getting killed like this, it’s really freaking me out,” said the mother of three children. “Seems like it doesn’t really matter where you stay because crime is everywhere.”

Nothing like Wednesday night’s killing has happened at the apartments while she’s been living there, she said.

“It’s really a nice place,” Mallory said of the property where at least two maintenance workers were manicuring the grounds Thursday morning.

They picked up what looked like a blue beer can near Building 16.

Witnesses reported that two men were arguing there with Conover before the gunfire, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The black male suspects left the apartment complex in a newer model, dark-colored Honda.

It was not immediately clear whether a second suspect is being sought.

Anyone with information in the shooting is urged to call 751-7500 and leave a message for the on-call investigator, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME and leave an anonymous tip that could lead to a $1,000 reward.
